IT Governance (ITG), the one‐stop shop for compliance expertise, is today launching a comprehensive Social Media Governance Toolkit at Infosecurity Europe 2010. The toolkit will help any organisation to develop, implement, monitor and improve social media activities within an effective governance structure.

The contents of the toolkit fall into three groups, being:
• documents for creating a social media strategy, including a policy that can be adapted for almost any circumstances, plus templates for areas such as risk
assessments, roles and responsibilities, metrics and monitoring, and communications and training;
• documents that help embed crucial controls, including an acceptable use agreement, branding guidelines and corporate style rules, and;
• operational best practice guidelines, covering everything from blogging and LinkedIn to Twitter and YouTube.

Alan Calder, Chief Executive of IT Governance, says: “Social media is here to stay, bringing benefits, but bringing risks, too. For many companies, social media is a critical line of communication to customers, partners and stakeholders. For many other organisations, however, social media is seen as a distraction to staff and a potential security threat. The key, of course, is to maximise the opportunities and minimise the dangers.

“Rather than banning or limiting staff from social media usage, companies should recognise the role that these revolutionary services have to play in modern business. That’s why this toolkit is so valuable, helping organisations to identify and reach their objectives through social media.”

The ITG Social Media Governance Toolkit is available as a download and can be bought online for £199.95 (US$298.40/€219.91) at:

itgovernance.co.uk/products/2974.

The toolkit can also be bought from the IT Governance stand (F102) at Infosecurity Europe 2010, running at Earls Court, London, from April 27‐29.
