ISO20000-5 provides thorough guidance on how to plan, implement and improve a service management system (SMS) to fulfil the requirements of ISO20000-1, using a generic three-phased approach to implementation as an example.

It also provides advice on the development of a business case, the project initiation, and other activities recommended for the implementation to be successful.

Supporting information for the SMS implementation project and examples of policies to illustrate what a service provider may want to put in place are also provided, as is guidance on documentation management. ISO20000-5 also includes adaptable templates for some of the documents specified in ISO20000-1 to aid in your implementation project.

While the intended users of ISO20000-5 are service providers, it can also be useful for those advising service providers on how to implement an SMS.
