Pengower Ltd achieves Cyber Essentials certification with IT Governance’s ‘Do It Yourself’ packaged solution

28/07/2016

IT Governance, the cyber security consultancy firm and CREST-accredited certification body, has helped Cloud application designer and developer Pengower Ltd, achieve certification to the government-backed Cyber Essentials scheme.

The scheme was developed by the UK Government to help organisations build a basic level of cyber hygiene and demonstrate to clients, stakeholders, partners, investors and insurers that they have taken the necessary steps to prevent “around 80% of cyber attacks”.

Alan Calder, founder and chief executive officer of IT Governance, said: “Congratulations to Pengower’s team for achieving their certification to the Cyber Essentials scheme. The certification demonstrates the orgnisation’s great track record for cyber security, which ultimately proves to their clients and stakeholders that they have taken the necessary steps to tackle cyber attacks.”

Carl Washington, chief operating officer at Pengower, said: "We needed the certification to support our local government contracts, as well as some private sector contracts where we handle particularly sensitive data. We found the process easy and straightforward, because we had all the necessary policies in place already. The process was managed entirely online through simple webforms, and we would happily recommend IT Governance’s services to other parties."
The Cyber Essentials scheme defines clear controls that organisations of any size should implement to mitigate cyber risks and improve their cyber security posture. These controls are: secure configuration, boundary firewalls and Internet gateways, access control and administrative privilege management, patch management, and malware protection.

Pengower Ltd opted for the ‘Do It Yourself’ packaged solution to achieve certification. The transparent, flexible and cost-effective solution includes a review of the self-assessment questionnaire (SAQ), the required external and internal vulnerability scans, and the certification service.

IT Governance is a CREST-accredited certification body and provides certification packages that can be deployed by any company wishing to achieve Cyber Essentials certification.
