The Cyber Essentials scheme
, which was officially launched on 5 June 2014 by the UK Government, was developed to keep UK business safe. It aims to offer a baseline for cyber security and sets out the key steps to manage cyber risks.
From 1 October 2014, the UK Government requires organisations to prove compliance with the scheme in order to bid for government contracts that involve the handling of sensitive and personal information, and the provision of certain technical products and services.
The Cyber Essentials scheme applies to small- and medium-sized organisations and large companies alike. British organisations that meet the assessment requirements of the scheme will be awarded a badge to demonstrate compliance. There are two levels of compliance: Cyber Essentials and Cyber Essentials Plus.
