, the fast-growing cyber security provider and CREST-accredited certification body for the Cyber Essentials scheme, has reported that their client, blue-chip telecoms company Vodafone
, has been awarded the Cyber Essentials Plus certification.
IT Governance helped Vodafone prepare for certification and, in their capacity as a CREST-accredited certification body for the Cyber Essentials scheme, has issued Vodafone with the Cyber Essentials Plus certificate for meeting the Cyber Essentials Plus requirements.
Alan Calder, founder and executive chairman of IT Governance, says, “We are delighted that we could help Vodafone become the first telecoms company to meet the requirements of the UK Government’s Cyber Essentials scheme.
“We are all the more pleased with Vodafone’s achievement as they decided to go ahead with the project after attending our summer event on Cyber Essentials. The speed with which they achieved certification demonstrates both Vodafone’s commitment and our company’s competence and flexibility to meet its client’s needs. It also shows that achieving certification to Cyber Essentials or Cyber Essentials Plus should not be a complicated exercise – with the right level of competent support, most organisations should be able to execute it quickly.”
In a Vodafone press release
, Howard Pinto, head of technology security at Vodafone, says, “We take cyber security and protection of our customers’ data very seriously. We want our customers to be assured that when they do business with us we are doing everything possible to protect their data, our critical systems and business operations. To be the first telecoms company and the first multi-national to have met the new Cyber Essentials Plus standard, highlights our ongoing commitment to ensuring the security and protection of our IT and customer systems and online assets.”
Alan Calder adds, “Following three very successful events on the Cyber Essentials scheme at which we had a guest speaker from the UK Government, and the launch of our ‘all-in’ fixed-price Cyber Essentials packaged solutions
, we have seen a surge in demand for Cyber Essentials and Cyber Essentials Plus certifications. We are currently delivering Cyber Essentials services to many existing and new clients.”
Cyber Essentials, which was officially launched by the UK Government on 5 June 2014, was developed to keep UK businesses safe. It aims to offer a baseline for cyber security and sets out the key steps to manage cyber risks.
Cyber Essentials applies to small, medium and large organisations alike. British organisations that meet the assessment requirements of the scheme will be awarded a badge to demonstrate compliance. There are two levels of compliance: Cyber Essentials and Cyber Essentials Plus.
According to www.gov.uk
, from 1 October 2014 the UK Government will require all suppliers bidding for certain contracts which are assessed as higher risk to be Cyber Essentials certified. Those that are part of the government supply chain are likely to be among the first adopters of the scheme but, as with other frameworks, it may not be long before the private sector starts using Cyber Essentials in its procurement criteria.
