IT Governance congratulates SyntheSys on achieving Cyber Essentials certification

IT Governance, the cyber security consultancy firm and CREST-accredited certification body, is pleased to congratulate SyntheSys on achieving Cyber Essentials certification.
Alan Calder, the founder and executive chairman of IT Governance, says: “Certification to the Cyber Essentials scheme proves organisations have taken the right measures to increase their resistance to cyber threats. We’re pleased to congratulate SyntheSys on their successful certification and commitment to cyber security.”
Nikki Haynes, Operations Manager of SyntheSys, said: “Cyber threat was always an area of concern, particularly as the company works in the ICT arena. It requires ongoing vigilance and assessment of risk, alongside the application of adequate but practical technical controls.”

The Cyber Essentials scheme sets out five security controls to help organisations mitigate cyber risks and improve their cyber security posture. To achieve certification, organisations are required to address their boundary firewalls and Internet gateways, implement secure configuration, adequately manage access control and administrative privilege management, implement patch management, and ensure malware protection. The scheme is a government-backed cyber security certification that sets out a minimum standard for cyber security.
“Achieving Cyber Essentials was seen as a way to effectively demonstrate a level of assurance to our customer base, by showing that security controls are in place to protect the business, it’s IT systems and information, and that these controls have been assessed against an independent, formal framework.  Our previous knowledge of ISO 27001 and information security controls meant that we opted for the self-assessment process offered by IT Governance. The online portal provided an easy way to enter self-assessment questionnaire responses, schedule the external vulnerability checks and also request assistance along the way”, Nikki Haynes continued.

The North Yorkshire-based SyntheSys team achieved certification to Cyber Essentials on 8 July 2016 by opting for IT Governance’s Do It Yourself package, a transparent, flexible and cost-effective solution. The package allows organisations to take full control over their internal vulnerability assessment and certification process.
