Yahoo!, one of the largest websites in the US, compromised 450,000 users’ passwords last Thursday. Although less than 5% of these passwords are expected to be valid, the data breach has had a huge impact on the Yahoo! brand. If basic steps aren’t being taken (such as encrypting passwords) then what else has been left uncovered?
Marcus Carey from a Boston security company commented;
“The key thing is from a corporate perspective: perhaps invest more in security…….If Yahoo! didn’t [encrypt their passwords], they were probably cutting corners on other things.”
