The Emerging Importance of Cyber Essentials

On Tuesday 24 June, some 120 delegates gathered at Dexter House in London for one of the first Cyber Essentials events in the UK, organised by IT Governance.

The event was a huge success and sold out within three weeks, emphasising the importance that organisations, large and small, are placing on the new government Cyber Essentials Scheme.
From 1 October 2014, the UK Government will require suppliers bidding for certain information handling contracts to be Cyber Essentials certified.

The Cyber Essentials event discussed the Scheme, providing valuable information on what organisations will need to do to qualify for Cyber Essentials or Cyber Essentials Plus certification, and assessing the need for businesses to develop cyber resilience.

80% of feedback form respondents rated the event as Excellent or Very Good

60% of feedback form respondents also stated that implementing the Scheme within the next six months is a High or Very High Priority.

What’s more, following attendance at the event, 29% of respondents said that they will now implement Cyber Essentials or Cyber Essentials Plus.

82% said that the quality of presentations were Excellent or Very Good

In addition to a range of informative presentations from key industry figures including Richard Bach – Assistant Director, Cyber Security, Department for Business, Innovation and Skills – and Alan Calder – Chairman of IT Governance and world leading authority on cyber security – we also held 24 consultancy advice surgeries.

Due to excessive demand, IT Governance will host a second event on the Government’s Cyber Essentials Scheme on 17 July 2014.
