The technology and market research giant Forrester, recently published its 2011 security strategy recommendations. One of the recommendation which stands out is:
“Prepare for social technology adoption. As one CISO put it, social media adoption is like a freight train coming; if we don’t prepare ourselves for it, we’ll get hit pretty hard. Forrester surveys show a dramatic increase in the number of people accessing social media Web sites every day–the numbers have jumped from about 11% in 2008 to 30% in 2010. Social media technology increases the risk of malware infections and data leaks (both intentional and unintentional). Social media policies will have a wide variation, but it’s important to have a governance strategy and specific policies in addition to the technical controls, process checks, and people awareness to mitigate this risk.” – Read more here.
Our Social Media Governance Toolkit is unique and purchasing it should be the first step every organisation takes to preparing to meet this challenge…
The documents in this Social Media Governance Toolkit fall into three groups:
- Documents for creating a social media governance framework, including a comprehensive social media policy that draws on established best practice and can be adapted for almost any circumstances, plus roles & responsibilities, communications & training, and metrics & monitoring;
- Documents that help embed crucial controls around social media, including an acceptable use agreement, template for legal guidance, branding & corporate style guide;
- Operational Guidelines that set out best practice for social media activity, including guidelines for internet postings, blogging, Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter and YouTube.
Uniquely, this social media governance toolkit also links to the best practice information security controls contained in ISO/IEC 27001 and, while it is a standalone product, it is also designed to integrate (if desired) with other ITGP toolkits, specifically the SharePoint Governance Toolkit and the ISO27001 ISMS Documentation Toolkit.
