Credibility and trustworthiness are two keywords that all companies with an online business model should bear in mind when promoting products and services. Being credible means that you deliver what you promise without any hidden or additional tricks; consequently, you are considered trustworthy and customers will keep doing business with you.
Achieve cyber security credentials
In an era notable for indiscriminate cyber attacks targeting companies regardless of their size and industry, your credibility is critical to surviving and to beating competition. Proving your cyber security credentials will boost your image as a secure company in the fight against cyber criminals.
Basic cyber security credentials can be demonstrated through the Cyber Essentials scheme, the UK Government-backed cyber security certification scheme that sets out a baseline of cyber security suitable for all organisations. The scheme sets out a series of five security controls (secure configuration, boundary firewalls and Internet gateways, access control and administrative privilege management, patch management, and malware protection) that help you stay cyber secure. But there are many other reasons you should get a Cyber Essentials certification.
Here is a quick overview:
How to get Cyber Essentials or Cyber Essentials Plus certified
The application process entails the following:
- Complete a self-assessment questionnaire (to check the five security controls are implemented correctly);
- The questionnaire is signed off by a senior company representative;
- The questionnaire is verified by an external certification body;
- Certification from CREST-approved certification bodies provides the added protection and assurance of an external vulnerability scan.
IT Governance, a CREST-approved certification body, has tailored three packaged solutions to help you get Cyber Essentials or Cyber Essentials Plus certified. Depending on your needs and budget, each solution includes the certification service and additional products and services you might need during your journey towards certification.
