For the second time this year, Orange has announced that they have suffered a data breach. This time the breach has affected 1.3 million customers.
The statement released on Orange’s website stated “We found an illegitimate access to an email and SMS-sending platform.” This resulted in a limited amount of personal data being stolen, but thankfully not bank details.
The data stolen included:
- email addresses
- mobile and landline numbers.
It’s been stated that the breach was detected on April 18 but Orange has left it until now to inform the affected customers.
This news isn’t only frustrating for those customers affected, it’s also embarrassing for Chief Executive Stephane Richard, who recently signed a charter on data protection in which Orange pledged to always keep its customers’ data safe.
