A new report conducted by the Altimeter Group has highlighted that organisations need to take a risk management based approach to social media.
The report on social media risk identifies 4 key areas of concern for organisations:
- Damage to brand reputation
- Releasing confidential information
- Legal, regulatory and compliance violations
- Identity theft or hijacking
Whilst everyone is aware of the benefits of social media the risks associated with it are often not considered, let alone understood. Commenting on the report risk expert Michael Krigsman, CEO of Asuret, Inc., said:
“The relative immaturity of social media has caused it to lag behind other corporate domains, such as project management and legal, where risk management is highly structured and well understood.”
