Huge fines planned in new European Data Breach Directive

The new European Data Protection Directive is set to be released in January 2012 which could see fines in place of up to 5% of a company’s global turnover.

Those who abuse and breach European data protection laws, could face huge fines from the European Commission.

Fines imposed by the European Commission could effect any company, anywhere in the world. This also includes the likes of the big fish such as Google, Microsoft and Facebook (which has had recent rows with the EU over privacy settings). Though these multi-national companies have head offices in the United States, they still operate in Europe, which will force them to comply with the new Directive.

Therefore, the new year will see many acts and laws across the world take into account the new European Data protection Directive. Watch this space!
