Has LinkedIn been hacked?

Well no one’s quite sure at the moment. Breaking news across the internet suggests that the professional social networking site has been hacked and over 6 million of its user’s passwords have been leaked.

Apparently hackers have posted a file containing encrypted passwords onto a Russian web forum and have invited the hacking community to help with decryption.

LinkedIn has yet to make an official statement, however it has posted on its twitter account that their ‘Team is currently looking into reports.’

Staying safe online is a common headline these days, with a report published yesterday that a crime is committed every 40 minutes on Facebook.

I would like to muse further on this story, but for now I’m off to change my LinkedIn password and brace myself for a raft of spam and scam emails!
