Have you ever wondered how to become a business continuity management (BCM) consultant? If you have, you no doubt want to work for yourself or increase your earning potential. These are totally natural ambitions.
But where to start?
Probably the easiest way to get started is to get copies of all the relevant information on BCM best practice, such as the ISO22301 and ISO22313 standards – BS ISO 22301:2012 and BS ISO 22313:2012 A5 Laminated Pocket Guide. We would recommend you buy the pocket guide version of the standards so once you are a consultant you have a copy you can carry around with you easily.
An essential implementation guide that we would recommend you read is The Route Map to Business Continuity Management. Meeting the Requirements for ISO22301 (ISO 22301).
Once you have a basic understanding of the standards, you will no doubt need to undergo some formal training to gain further in-depth knowledge of BCM best practice.
The International Board for IT Governance Qualifications (IBITGQ) offer qualifications that offer an ideal career path to becoming a BCM consultant.
We would suggest you start off by taking the ISO22301 Certified BCMS Foundation Training Course, followed by both the ISO22301 Certified BCMS Lead Implementer Training Course and the ISO22301 Certified BCMS Lead Auditor Training Course.
Once you have read the standards and taken the courses you are well on your way to realising your dream of becoming a consultant.
