Following the success of our first two webinars in the GDPR series, we are excited to announce our next free webinar, which will discuss the role of the data protection officer (DPO) under the General Data Protection Regulation.
The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), which is set to come into force in May 2018, brings a huge staffing impact, according to recent reports, by mandating organisations that process large quantities of personal data appoint a data protection officer (DPO). The DPO can either be an employee or a third party who provides data protection officer services and is equipped with “expert knowledge of data protection law and practices”, and on the basis of professional qualifications.
The Regulation will introduce tough penalties for data breaches, with organisations facing fines of up to €20 million or 4% of annual global turnover – whichever is greater.
To help current data protection officers and individuals looking to undertake the role of DPO, IT Governance’s next webinar promises to address the responsibilities that the GDPR identifies and how to meet the Regulation’s compliance requirements.
Our third webinar, The role of the data protection officer, takes place at 15:00 BST on 28 July 2016 and will cover:
- An overview of the regulatory landscape
- Territorial scope
- Remedies, Liabilities and Penalties
- Principles of the EU GDPR
- Security of personal data
- The role of the data protection officer
- Supervisory authorities
Led by Adrian Ross, an experienced data protection and information security consultant at IT Governance, this webinar will shed light on how the GDPR will affect your business, some of the critical principles of the GDPR, and the role of data protection officer (DPO) under the Regulation. The webinar is an essential event for anyone involved in data protection and compliance, or looking to undertake the role of data protection officer.
Following webinars in the series are:
1 September 2016: Revising policies and procedures under the EU GDPR

GDPR training opportunities for DPOs
People who want to fulfil the role of DPO within an organisation and get in-depth knowledge of the GDPR can attend IT Governance’s brand new Certified EU General Data Protection Foundation online training course. The one-day interactive Live Online session is designed to give individuals around the world the flexibility to build a basic understanding and solidify their EU GDPR knowledge in a cost- and time-effective manner.
IT Governance’s courses support professional development. Upon completing the course, delegates will sit a 60-minute multiple-choice exam, accredited by the International Board for IT Governance Qualifications (IBITGQ). Passing the examination proves that the participant has obtained a solid understanding of the EU GDPR.
