A new report from recruitment firm Robert Half (Cybersecurity: Protecting your future) confirms that the current lack of cyber security skills in the UK is still a major concern for CIOs (chief information officers):
- 77% of UK CIOs think “they will face more security threats in the next five years [because of] a shortage of IT security talent.”
- 34% of them plan to hire extra permanent security staff.
- 27% say they will employ more contractors in the next 12 months.
Phil Sheridan, the senior marketing director at Robert Half, commented: “In order to successfully confront a proliferating breed of cyber attackers, companies need skilled IT talent who understand the current and evolving cyber threat environment. With a robust strategy in place, companies will be prepared for the future of cybersecurity.”
IT Governance training
Data loss – whether accidental or malicious – can have catastrophic effects for any organisation, ranging from financial penalties and reputational damage to business failure and potential criminal proceedings.
But as competition for appropriately qualified staff inevitably increases, and salaries continue to rise to attract suitably skilled candidates – often beyond levels that smaller organisations can afford – what can you do to ensure your organisation has the talent it needs?
There is a third option, besides increasing internal headcount and employing external contractors: training your existing staff.
If you’re a CIO with concerns about the level of skill in your organisation, why not consider upskilling your team?
IT Governance’s training courses provide a structured learning path from Foundation to Advanced level in a wide range of subjects, and our programme of professional certification training courses offers delegates exam preparation for some of the most prestigious qualifications available to IT management professionals, including certifications from IBITGQ, ISACA, and (ISC)2.
