What's New in PRINCE2:2009?
Projects in Controlled Environments 2 (PRINCE2) has been updated to reflect the latest changes in the project management arena. The core content of the manual has been updated to take more the form of guidance rather than the previous style of instruction.
The new manual is also easier to read and use than the previous edition, particular attention has been made in ensuring that a plain-English style has been followed throughout the text.
Additionally, the linkages between other frameworks and PRINCE2 have been made clearer, as well as the linkages with the other OGC methodologies. PRINCE2 now also uses a common language as used in the other OGC frameworks.
The PRINCE2 Foundation and Practitioner exams will be based on the new "Managing Projects Manual" and will not include materials from the "Directing Projects" book. Based on demand, an exam will be developed based on the "Directing Projects" book.
PRINCE2 registered practitioners will be under no obligation to re-take the exam for either 5 years, or when their certificate expires. There is no major difference between the 2005 and 2009 versions of PRINCE2 so it is advised that candidates do not delay taking the examination based on earlier editions of the methodology. Investments in training of previous PRINCE2 versions will not be lost as it is still a valid and productive methodology for the management of projects.
The 2009 exams will come into practice once the new "Managing Projects" manual is published as they are dependant on this publication.
