What is the ITIL Complementary Qualification Scheme?
During the latter half of 2009, the APMG, the accreditor of the ITIL certification scheme, launched a new qualification scheme to include qualifications that are complementary to the core ITIL qualifications. The aim of these qualifications is to allow candidates to develop a specialism within service management and ITIL and be recognised for it.
ITIL complementary qualifications are developed by licensed examination institutes. Once submitted for accreditation, they are assessed for inclusion within the ITIL complementary qualification scheme by the International Qualifications and Certifications Committee (IQCC). Qualifications submitted must meet the following criteria in order to be approved to be part of the complementary scheme:
- Address an area within one of the core ITILv3 manuals or complementary publications (standards, books, other guidance, etc.)
- Cover a subject not already covered by another ITIL qualification.
- Or covers existing areas of ITILv3 qualifications with a new perspective.
Qualifications that are endorsed as being aligned with ITILv3 will be awarded a credit score. Different qualifications have different credit scores, and upon completion of the relevant course and exam these credits can be used towards the 22 needed for the ITILv3 Expert qualification. A maximum of six credits can come from qualifications that fall within the complementary qualification scheme. With the rest coming from the Foundation, Intermediate and Managing Accross the Lifecycle qualifications.
On the rest of this page we will look at the available qualifications.
