A report conducted by IT Governance, found that company bosses’ No. 1 cyber security threat is their own employees.
Taken from IT Governance’s ‘Boardroom Cyber Watch 2013‘, 53% of respondents viewed employees as their greatest threat to corporate data and computer systems.
What’s most surprising about this find, is that the internal threat of employees was voted more threatening than external risks such as criminals (27%), state-sponsored cyber-attackers (12%) and competitors (8%).
The use of highly connected computers makes controlling information in your organisation much more difficult than in the past. Do your employees have access to product designs or customer lists? Could they be easily sent to a competitor? Or do you have a strategy in place to mitigate these kinds of risks?
A pocket guide from IT Governance Publishing (ITGP) titled ‘The Insider Threat‘, will get you to get up to speed on key security problems that businesses are now facing as a result of the insider threat.
With the right strategy in place, you can restrict the opportunities open to disgruntled employees to disrupt your business operations, prevent major fraud and information threat.
